Fire Prevention Week – Free Community Open Houses

Can you ‘Hear the Beep Where you Sleep?’ During National Fire Prevention Week, October 4 to 10, Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services (MFES) wants to remind you that this sound can save your life.

During Fire Prevention Week, MFES will be in the community and opening fire stations throughout the city to help educate residents on the importance of fire prevention and safety.

According to MFES, most fires in Mississauga occur in residential homes, so having an escape plan, knowing the sound of your alarms and having both fire and carbon monoxide detectors in place can save lives. Continue reading Fire Prevention Week – Free Community Open Houses

Game, Set, Match: Council Approves an Outdoor Beach Volleyball Facility at Lakefront Promenade Park

On September 30, Mississauga City Council approved a motion for the development of a beach volleyball facility on the City of Mississauga’s waterfront at Lakefront Promenade Park in Ward 1. The courts will be used for the 2016 Ontario Summer Games and will have an ongoing community legacy.

“Having a beach volleyball court in Mississauga was something that was proposed by Councillors Fonseca, Mahoney and I during the bid for the 2016 Ontario Summer Games,” said Ward 9 Councillor Pat Saito. “Beach volleyball is a very popular sport with a large following. During the Pan Am Games, the majority of the beach volleyball games were sold out.
