Mississauga – A Mississauga man is now in custody following his attempt to disarm a police officer.
On Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at approximately 2:00 a.m., officers from 12 Division were called to the area of Hurontario Street and Mineola Road for a report of a dispute between two people.
Upon arrival, police located the suspect, who brandished a knife and began walking towards a uniformed officer. The officer ordered the suspect to drop the knife and subsequently arrested him. During the arrest, the suspect continued to struggle with the officer, refusing to cooperate. The suspect attempted to remove the officer’s firearm from its holster, but was unsuccessful.
He was eventually taken into custody and the officer did not receive any injuries as a result of the incident.
Dmitri LEVINE, 23 years of age from Mississauga, has been charged with Assault, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Assault with a Weapon, and Disarming a Police Officer. He was held pending a bail hearing and scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Tuesday, July 8, 2008.
