Peel - Recently, a chain email has been circulating the internet alleging that the originator is Peel Regional Police. The email is titled ‘Warning from Peel Police' and contains information regarding carjackings.

Peel Regional Police would like to reassure the public that this email did NOT originate from them and the information contained therein is false.

However, personal safety is always of utmost importance. Peel Police's Crime Prevention Unit works with the community to ensure that citizens are educated on how to keep themselves safe; whether at home, in the car, or on the street. Here are some recommended safety tips:

  • Plan your route and avoid short cuts through parks, vacant lots, or unlit areas.
  • Avoid being alone if you can. Get a friend to accompany you.
  • Don't carry large sums of money or unnecessary valuables.
  • Don't carry a purse; use waist belts instead.
  • Always lock your car, both after entering and when leaving it.
  • Keep the windows closed.
  • When parking your car, keep in mind what the environment will be like when you return.
  • If possible, reverse your car in to the spot, for a clearer view upon exiting.
Peel Regional Police would like to remind everyone that official messages will always be displayed on the homepage of our website (www.peelpolice.ca).
